Leads

 

A Lead is a contact that is not yet a direct part of your organization, such as a member, customer, employee, etc.  A Lead can be converted into a Contact or an Account, helping you to set up the information needed once they become a contact.

 

With the Lead the CRM suite provides a workflow that allows you to convert a lead, e.g. changing them from a lead to a customer or member, which will allow you to turn the lead into a Contact, or create a new Account based on that lead.

 

Having a Lead as a separate object makes it easier to work with leads, generate reports, and track activities designed to convert the lead into a part of your organization.  New contacts that are prospective customers or members should be entered as Leads.

 

Customize the Lead Object

 

If you want to change any of the details about the Lead object, go to Setup > Development > Objects and click on the Lead object.  From there you can modify the fields, layout, user permissions, etc.
