Templates

A template allows you to define the default information that appears when a new record is created.  Templates are assigned to user profiles.

Permissions are required to work with custom objects.

A template allows you to fill a new record with default information automatically.  The information that is available or visible to the user depends on their view (page layout) of the object, and the template assigned to their profile, so they can only see or change the template information that you have already allowed them to see or change.  Templates allow you to speed up data entry, insert required information, make sure all necessary information is present, and help your business processes.

You can have as many templates as you need for each user profile or combination of user profiles.  If a user is restricted by their page layout so that they can not see or work with certain fields, they will not see that information or be able to work with it in the template either.

You create templates for objects, so start from the PerfectMind Setup and click Custom Objects, then click the name of the object that you want to work with, and then select the Templates tab.  You can enter as much or as little information as you need for each template.  You then assign that template to a user profile.  When someone with that profile creates a new record, the information from the template for their profile will be added automatically.
